  Batalha Pan 2.jpg - The Monastery was built to celebrate the Portuguese victory over the Castillians in the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385 -  exceptional examples of Manueline masonry can be found in the seven chapels (on the right) which are unfinished  because the masons  were taken by Manuel I to Belém in Lisbon to start work on the Mosteiro de Jerónimos.
